I have been advocating victims of wrongful death and medical malpractice for over 40 Years and when I read the story this morning on USA Today I was sickened by the medical maternal field and their lack of practice. Being one of the wealthiest countries there is absolutely no reason that we should be leading the world in maternal death rates.
An investigation that has taken place over the last 4 years has discovered that in hospitals every year in the united states over 50,000 mothers are severely injured during or after giving birth. More than 700 of those mothers die during delivery, leaving a child with no mother.
The death rate for these mothers has been steadily rising and the U.S. hands down is the most dangerous place to give birth. With the death toll over 1,000 in the United States this is leaving other countries with not even 100 deaths. That makes the united states 10x more likely to fail a delivery than any other country. What is even more gut wrenching is most of these deaths can be prevented with better medical care.

Something must be done in our hospitals whether it be better training, or more staff, but there is no reason our country should be leading in maternal death rates.
