With the warmer weather approaching the fires start up, the parties get loud, and the drinks get cold. People let loose and want to have a good time which can result in the use of alcohol. The truth of the matter is that for every drink a person has it is putting their life at risk when getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. It is heartbreaking for any accident to occur from drinking and driving and people need to realize the consequences of getting behind the wheel while under the influence. Driving is a privilege not a right. Under no circumstances should anyone be operating a vehicle while under the influence of any type of drug or alcohol. If you or someone has been drinking please call someone to drive you wherever you need to go whether that be an Uber, Lyft, taxi, friend, or even family member.
It is important for you to protect yourself as well as others and getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after even a sip of alcohol is not a smart decision. Although there are many warnings in place, that tell people they should not drink and drive there are still over 1.1 million people that have been convicted in the state of Ohio. That is 1 in every 7 licensed drivers that have received a Driving Under The Influence (DUI) charge.
What to do if you suspect a drunk driver
If you suspect someone has been drinking and driving you should immediately call 911. Stay on the phone with the operator and tell them you would like to report a drunk driver. Give them the license plate number of the vehicle as well as the location. This is the right thing to do and you could save someone’s life.
In the last year in The State of Ohio over 3600 people were killed in a crash by a drunk driver and those numbers continue to increase. There is no reason at all that it should be acceptable for anyone to break the rules. They are not only putting their own life at risk, but other drivers and people on the road as well. Please always be aware of your surroundings and if you see something say something. You could save a life.
