Did you know that unsafe baby products are being sold to unsuspecting parents right now? The statistics are truly shocking. According to a recent CBS segment, a record-breaking 84 million children’s items were pulled from shelves in 2023 alone. But these aren’t just numbers. Each recall represents families whose trust was betrayed by the very companies promising to keep their children safe.
One Mother’s Unimaginable Loss
In 2015, new mother Kirsten Connolly believed she was making a safe choice for her six-week-old son, Jameson. The Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play sleeper was marketed as a miracle solution for exhausted parents. “It was sleep-saving, like people said it was,” she remembered.
Then came the morning that shattered her world forever. Connolly heard her fiancé James scream—Jameson had stopped breathing while sleeping in the Rock ‘n Play.
For months, the grieving parents searched for answers, only to receive a death certificate listing the cause as “undetermined.” The truth remained hidden for four years until, in 2019, Connolly discovered that Fisher-Price had finally recalled the Rock ‘n Play—the same product in which her son had died.
A Broken System Failing Our Children
The facts of Kirsten Connolly’s case reveal a deeply troubling pattern. Consumer Product Safety Commission records show at least 100 infant deaths linked to the Rock ‘n Play since 2012. A congressional investigation also concluded Fisher-Price failed to verify the product’s safety before marketing it.
Most disturbing of all, evidence shows that the company knew about injuries and deaths as early as 2012—but waited years to recall the product. When Connolly sought accountability, Mattel (Fisher-Price’s parent company) had her case dismissed on a technicality. They argued she missed the two-year statute of limitations—which expired before they even recalled their dangerous product.
Attorney Regina Calcaterra, representing seven families whose babies died in Rock ‘n Plays, exposed how corporations exploit legal loopholes. “What they were doing was pushing it down the line, so by the time the recall actually happened, the infants that died early on were not able to file a case.”
Protecting Your Family When No One Else Will
Connolly’s tragic story is far from the only example of manufacturer negligence. She—and every other parent who has experience unimaginable tragedy—deserves justice.
