Have you been doing holiday shopping for your own children, or for your nieces and nephews? Every year, retail stores sell various toys and children’s products to consumers that pose serious injury risks. In some cases, parents and guardians might purchase toys that have already been subject to safety recalls at secondhand stores or on secondhand online marketplaces like eBay or Amazon Marketplace. At the same time, many new toys that have not been recalled can result in serious injuries when they are used improperly, or even when they are used as they were designed to be used.
Every year around the holiday season, recognizing the serious dangers that some toys can pose to kids of all ages, World Against Toys Causing Harm, Inc. (WATCH) publishes a toy safety report. This year’s report shows that a number of toys on your gift list could result in catastrophic injuries to kids. I want to make sure you know about these products so that you can avoid purchasing them. In the event your child does get hurt after using a consumer product, I want to help you file a catastrophic injury claim.
Learning About WATCH’s Dangerous Toys List
This year’s WATCH dangerous toys list discusses the “10 Worst Toys” of 2020 when it comes to children’s safety and catastrophic injury risks. Here is the list of some of those toys:
- Calico Critters Nursery Friends: This toy is recommended for children 3 and up, but it poses serious choking injury hazards. WATCH points out that the toy “includes small parts, such as a pacifier, with the potential for choking injuries.” It is currently being sold by Walmart, Amazon, Kohl’s, and other retail establishments.
- Marvel Avengers Vibranium Power FX Claw: This toy might look like a great gift for a child who is a fan of Black Panther or the Marvel movies in general, but WATCH reports that it has the potential to cause eye and facial injuries. Indeed, the toy contains “rigid, plastic power FX claws” that can cause serious injuries to kids. It is being sold on Amazon, at Kmart, Walmart, and other retailers.
- Original Boomerang Interactive Stunt UFO: This toy, sold at Target and Walmart, has the potential to cause severe cutting and propeller-related injuries to children, their pets, and to spectators nearby.
Call Me for Assistance with Your Case
Catastrophic injuries are devastating whether they happen to you or your child. When people do not know about the risks posed by certain consumer products, they purchase them with the expectation that they are safe for use. However, as the recent toy safety report underscores, there are many toys that can result in serious and debilitating injuries for older children, and many of these products can result in fatal injuries to toddlers and younger children. It is critical to hold the designers, manufacturers, and marketers of these dangerous toys accountable for the catastrophic injuries their products cause.
