5 questions with attorney Tim Misny, who promises to ‘make them pay’
Images of his face – or just his distinctive raised eyebrow – have been tattooed onto fan’s body parts.
They’ve been carved into pumpkins at Halloween.
And, they’re the subject of a line of merchandise that includes bibs, clocks and bottle openers.
Tim Misny, a personal-injury lawyer who was catapulted to stardom in Northeast Ohio with billboards and TV commercials that promise to “make them pay,” doesn’t take his fame for granted.
“It amazes me on a daily basis,” he said during a recent interview in the hunting lodge on his 80-acre estate in Lake County’s upscale Waite Hill, where he lives with his wife and three kids.
Misny, who will turn 70 in April and has been an attorney for 43 years, is the subject of a mockumentary about his life expected to come out next year. He recently talked to the Beacon Journal about his life and fame, including whether he has any eyebrow-grooming secrets.
How many offices do you have across Ohio?
How did the phrase 'I’ll make them pay!' come about?
I got a call from a father who said his son had a simple tonsillectomy. The doctor used a new robotic device he had never been trained on, though he told them he had done hundreds. He (the son) had permanent brain damage. I went to the hospital and met the family.
In the hallway, his grandmother pointed her skinny finger at me and said, “Now, you go make them pay!”
I made them pay.
Have you ever done a billboard design that was suggested by a fan?
Mount Misny, a take on Mount Rushmore. All the faces are mine with different expressions. I don’t think I should share space. What have they accomplished?
A new one is a Guardian statute. The billboard company superimposed my face to make it look like it was chiseled into the statue. The caption says, “Always protecting you.”
Do you get your eyebrows coiffed?
Fans have described you on social media as a king and Batman. Which do you prefer?
I love Batman. We are coming up with a new billboard that is my eyebrow lit up (like the Bat Signal).
When I was dating, I would tell women, “Don’t tell anyone – I’m Batman.” It did not work.
