Tim has had a special appreciation for ballroom dancing ever since he and Stephanie first took lessons of their own.
“It just wasn’t for me. I’d rather hit golf balls,” commented Tim. “But it didn’t take me long to learn that ballroom dancing is unbelievably demanding both mentally and physically.”
As soon as Tim learned about Dancing Classrooms of Northeast Ohio, he knew it was something special that he wanted to support. Dancing Classrooms is a social development program that utilizes dance as a “tool for getting children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate and cooperate, and accept others even if they are different.”
The Northeast Ohio branch of Dancing Classrooms was founded in 2008 by Executive Director Jo Jo Graham. In the program’s first year alone, they worked with 10 schools, 24 classrooms, and reached over 600 children. Participation in the program has been connected to improved school attendance rates, focus and attention, as well as better academics and testing, reduced behavioral problems, and an increase in parental involvement.
