Tim has a special place in his heart for his alma mater, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. So when VASJ President Rich Osborne and Board Chairman Don Dailey asked for his help in the annual “Continuing the Dream” tuition-assistance fundraiser, he not only jumped on the bandwagon, but upped the ante.

When Don and Rich asked Tim if he would consider being the initial “Dream Maker” match sponsor, Tim told them that not only did he want to participate, but he wanted them to top last year’s amount and would donate $10,000 if they could raise $35,000 for the private Cleveland high school.

Tim’s reason for wanting to help out his alma mater is simple: Nothing succeeds like success … and boy, does VASJ have success! Over the last two years the freshman class enrollment has grown by 125 percent.
The varsity boys’ basketball team won the 2013 Division IV Ohio State Championship. And the fact that resonates most with Tim, 100 percent of VASJ’s graduating seniors from the class of 2012 went on to college.

Not only did the April 6, 2013 fundraiser top the past year’s number, it blew it out of the water! Many generous individuals jumped on board with Tim to donate match money if the drive could raise its first $35,000.

The 2013 “Continuing the Dream” tuition-assistance drive event raised $135,000 without breaking a sweat on that night in Viking Village.

“Because of Tim and the other Dream Makers, we will be able to enable more students to have the blessing of a VASJ education while we also maintain, improve and enhance their experience here,” Osborne said.

In addition to the scholarship fund drive, attendees at the event also had the chance to bid on silent auction items and participate in ongoing 50/50 raffles throughout the evening.

VASJ students say “thank you” to donors at the 2013 scholarship fundraising event.

The 2013 Classic Mixer ended up being the largest fundraiser in the history of the Cleveland high school, and the great thing about the event it is that the funds ensure that deserving students going to VASJ will be able to afford tuition and continue their studies.

VASJ also collected more than $60,000 in other donations and funding. This summer, VASJ will complete several projects improving the school grounds thanks to dedicated donors. Among the projects in the works: a new brick entrance to the parking lot, a new gym roof, a newly renovated chemistry lab, and a refurbished ministry center.
