A little over two years ago, my dear friend Gary Horvath Sr. contacted me and told me he wanted to open a boxing club for inner-city youth on W. 25th Street. After visiting the space with Gary, I was so impressed with his passion and the potential of this fine facility that I agreed to have a fundraiser to finance Gary’s dream.

We had an “Elvis Presley” night at my home, and thanks to the generosity of my friends, we raised $13,000, one hundred percent of which went to renovating and equipping the gym.

During the last two and half years the “I’ll Make Them Pay!®” Boxing Club, at 3212 W. 25th Street in Cleveland, has been an oasis for 100s of near-Westside youth to come, train, and learn from a boxing legend, Gary Horvath.

On Wednesday, December 11, I am sponsoring a “Fight Night” Fundraiser in an effort to keep the gym alive and thriving.

The card will feature several pro and amateur bouts of both mixed martial arts and boxing. Festivities start at 7 p.m. and tickets are $50 per person. Food and beverages will be served. As capacity is limited, I suggest you reserve a ticket or block of tickets by calling my office at (440) 256-1395.

It will be my pleasure to serve as the evening’s emcee.
